Message from the Chair of the Judges

Once again, we had a large number of entries for the awards this year. There was a welcome increase in new firms and companies entering - and this showed through in the shortlist, which we think has the largest number of different firms shortlisted for one or more awards that we have ever seen.

All of this meant more work for the panel of judges, drawn as ever from a cross-section of firms and institutes within the tax profession. I am always very conscious of the amount of time we ask judges to give up, not only a full day for our deliberations but at least double that in reading the entries beforehand.

As usual, not all judges participated in all decisions in order,  to avoid any conflicts of interest. I would like, on your behalf, to thank them for their dedication and thoughtful analysis.

After last year’s awards, I issued, for the first time, a short report as chair of the judges, giving general advice for entrants drawn from the judging day. I will be doing the same this year in a few weeks' time, when it will be available on Taxation.co.uk.

I hope it will be useful for next year’s entrants, and that if your firm did not enter this year you will consider doing so in future.
